  1. We had come from Denver to Chicago via Ed Wall's ranch, 1180 miles, in exactly seventeen hours, not counting the two hours in the ditch and three at the ranch and two with the police in Newton, Iowa, for a mean average of seventy miles per hour across the land, with one driver. Which is a kind of crazy record.--Jack Kerouac, _On the Road_, p. 238 (penguin classics edition). Good luck, Danny. Emerald

  3. Danny,

El Jefe here.. Flipped out when I saw that you posted these pics of my trip in 1973. That a 1971 Moto Guzzi 750 Ambassador on that center stand. I want to take a moment to thank my Italian friends for their outstanding U.S. supply of parts (this WAS 1973,of course)for the Guzzi. Lord knows I needed them !!..Hahahaha .

All the best to you as you spar with the elements. You are a part of a finite group of rugged individuals who can say that they rode that horse from one coast to the other.

    Peace

    Dave

  5. How can I not follow recommendations from erudite friends like Niles and Emerald. So I dropped by my local public library to return Stephen King and picked up Kerouac for the trip. This guy saw me with it leaving the library and gave me a thumbs up, "Hey, Kerouac!" I just smiled, like we were part of a secret society.
